Luke’s Story

Site created on July 9, 2019

Luke was admitted to Unity Hospital Sunday 7/7/19 with severe pain in his leg that turned out to be a blood clot (DVT) and in the process of tests to discover why he developed it, his lab values came back indicating leukemia. He was transferred to Mpls Children's Hospital where he started  treatment. After a couple rounds of chemo, he received a bone marrow transplant from his sister Allison on 10/25/19. The transplant went well overall and he was declared to be in remission in the following months. A year later at Luke's check in appointment, he had some cells that looked abnormal. In January of 2021, it was determined that the leukemia cells had returned and Luke would need to undergo more treatment. Luke received more chemo and another bone marrow transplant from Allison on 7/9/2021. We appreciate your prayers and support for our brave fighter, Luke.

We are overwhelmed by the love and support we have received from everyone! While we love how many people care about Luke, it is easier for us to post on this site rather than text people individually, so please refer here for updates!

Journal entry by Luke Coelho

Hi everyone!

We got the rest of my test results back from my bone marrow biopsy and lumbar puncture and everything looks great! There was no evidence of disease in my marrow or spinal fluid. This was the last time they will check, since the chance of recurrence after two years is very low. From here on out, I’ll just be getting standard blood work done a couple times a year, and maybe some further testing if anything happens to look off.

Thank you all for supporting me throughout this journey. Your prayers, love, and support have meant the world to me, I couldn’t have done it without you all. ❤️
