Journal entry by Paula Kay Shaffer —
Upon returning home from her second week of chemotherapy, Luella spiked a fever and was sent to the Wood River ER. Her oncology team promptly admitted her back to Boise where we arrived at 1am on Saturday. With her cell counts decimated, there is major concern for serious infection, particularly sepsis. High dose antibiotics and antifungals have not addressed the culprit; the fever is persistent.
Yesterday, Luella received a transfusion to which she had a systemic reaction that required the administration of epinephrine. Today we repeated the transfusion with additional precautions and she handled it beautifully. We will remain at St. Lukes Boise until her cell counts recover and the source of the fever is identified and corrected.
In her downtime, Luella gleefully paints, takes on-line photography, receives foot massages, gets unlimited food delivery and chillaxes'.
Magnificent appreciation for all the prayers, well wishes, magical vibes and bottomless love that upholds us.
