Lou was instrumental into my interest and appreciation of craft that would eventually lead me to opening my brewery The 21st Amendment. He really was.

I would also venture to the “Father Office” on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica a stones throw from my apartment. Lou was one of the first publicans to serve craft beer, mainly focusing on Anchor Brewing Company and Sierra Nevada Brewing Company. This iconic establishment with it’s saw dust floor, pinball machine and resident cat was rich with craft beer.

Fathers Office was one of the first places to serve all of Anchor Brewery Company’s beers. There was nothing like that place. If you were inclined you could order a beer and go though a back door that connected to the barber shop and enjoy your pint while getting a hair cut. You could grab a pizza from Louise's back then and bring it over to Father's Office before he put in the wood fired oven. The Father’s Office bartenders were characters in themselves suggesting beers with their idiosyncrasies. It was a community as every bar should be.

RIP Lou and thank you for everything. Cheers, -Shaun O'Sullivan
