Newest Update

Journal entry by Melissa Stoller

We know we are overdue for a post.  The past few weeks have been filled with MANY conversations regarding moving Lou Ann to a transitional facility before going home that is able provide her with the therapy and care she requires during her healing.

Last week, the trach and NG (feeding) tubes were removed.  Food was a continuous struggle, especially regarding taste and texture as about half of her taste buds are gone.  She is slowly progressing from pureed drinks (like a meal replacement shake) to real pureed food and was able to eat a very small amount today.  Her mobility has increased with the aid of a walker and she is able to walk short distances.

Today, Dawn and Dean moved her from St. Luke's Hospital in Milwaukee to Algoma Medical Center.  She will remain here for a few weeks before she is able to go home.  Bob was able to spend some time with her tonight as him and Todd met them in Algoma.  She can have visitors at any time.  We will also provide an update with an address in the next few days so those that are not local can send cards if they wish.
