Lorie’s Story

Site created on March 27, 2021

My cancer experience started in 2017 when my colon ruptured at work. I survived sepsis and was in a coma foe 3 weeks. When I woke up, my life changed forever. I ended up with an ostomy and had to spend time in rehab relearning how to walk and eat. I was not formally diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer until almost a year later when I had to wean myself off painkillers for a surgery to reverse the ostomy. Days before the surgery I was in the emergency room begging my husband to kill me due to the pain. I never had the reversal as the cancer was discovered. I have been facing this disease for almost 3 years. I am on my third line of treatment- Lonsurf.

I am an educator, community advocate, mother of four and wife to Benjamin for 25 years.  I am passionate about my family and my career and have been in an eternal battle with restoring my 200 year old home.

Journal entry by Lorie Boveroux

Through some trial and error and taking matters into my own hands, I have managed to get the pain down to a functional level.

New chemo is interesting. Somehow it is different when you go to infusion and you are hooked up. It is passive participation.... having to face the pills morning and night and actually take them is active participation and psychologically challenging.
