Journal entry by Andrea Thorn

Hello!

I meant to write this journal entry yesterday since it was someone's 65th Birthday and I wanted to tell everyone to wish my mom a very Happy Birthday, but the day got away from me. Feel free to send belated birthday wishes!

Just a quick update on the lymphoma. Unfortunately the cancer did not respond as well to the last rounds of chemo as we all had hoped, therefore my mom is not able to do the stem cell transplant. She is not able to do this because the recent chemo did not put her in to complete remission this time, and that is needed in order to do the stem cell transplant.  She still has some visible (on a scan) enlarged lymph nodes. Disappointing, but we are moving forward and focusing on the next steps.

The new course of action now is something called CAR-T cell therapy.  I would try to explain it on here, but it is way over my head. If you are interested as to what it is/how it works there are some quick, good explanation videos about it on YouTube. My mom recently spent about 6 hours at the hospital so the nurses could collect the T cells they need from her blood to manipulate in order to eventually reinsert them in to her bloodstream to fight off the lymphoma cells. She will have the cells put back in to her body in about 3-4 weeks. After that its recovery and hopefully remission!

I will update on that process/results most likely next month sometime. As always thanks for all the love and support everyone!
