Loran’s Story

Site created on April 29, 2018

At the beginning of 2018, Loran began having symptoms of a bladder infection. After several weeks of tolerating,  the discomfort became severe enough for him to schedule an appointment with a urologist in March. He had several tests run, which we thought were excessive for just a ‘bladder infection’.
Our world changed on March 12 when we got the cancer diagnosis. Stage 3 Bladder Cancer. The tumor was pretty large and had spread through the bladder wall. Shock and disbelief is an understatement. This disease had sadly touched our lives all around us, but now it’s in our home.
A biopsy was scheduled on March 21.This was intended to be an outpatient day procedure, however due to blood clotting complications, Loran was in the hospital for 3 days. After two weeks of recovery, he began feeling better. We’ve had a few weeks of normalcy, which has been nice, especially for Ethan. We are so blessed to have such an amazing child.
Now begins Loran’s treatment plan. We will soon start 4 rounds of chemotherapy, to be given every other week beginning May 11. After that he will have a few weeks to rest and recover before the removal of his bladder. The cystectomy will be scheduled around mid to late August.
The plan is for the doctors to create a neobladder, which will allow him to function as “normal”. This is an intensive procedure will which require several months of recovery. We’re praying for full recovery by Christmas.
We are extremely blessed to have an abundant support of family and friends, as well as unwavering faith. We know we will come out of this situation victorious.  We appreciate all the love and prayers that have been poured out to us thus far. We will use this forum to keep you all posted of his progress.

Loran’s support from his colleagues, as well as mine, has been amazing. His co-workers have graciously started a gofundme page for Loran.

Journal entry by Janay Holley

Loran was able to come home Friday evening.  He is still in pain in his abdomen area, and is on a high dosage of pain medication.  He is able to move around slowly when he can for a short amount of time. He is mostly resting and sleeps due to all the meds. We are hoping that his healing and recovery will go well and quickly and he will be able to return to work and normal activities.  This will mostly depend on if he is able to reduce the amount of narcotics he is taking.  We will evaluate how he is feeling later in the week.

Thank you for reaching out to check on all of us.  Much appreciated.
