Hi Joe. How wonderful to read this post from you and to know that dear Lonnie and my granddaughter almost share a birthday (Lyla’s is January 10). Shine on, Lonnie! Your caring spirit still lives in my heart! Take care, Joe. I wish you peace in the new year and beyond.

I miss you, dear Lonnie. Twenty-five years of friendship begun at Mount Hermon when you asked me to send you the opening chapters to Thanks for the Mammogram (after 14 male editors had rejected it, saying they were uncomfortable with the idea of b-b-b-reast cancer and humor. You weren't. That was the beginning of a beautiful friendship, my fellow Casablanca-loving friend. I miss our 3-hour phone calls, our discussions of favorite books and movies, your great stories--you were the consummate storyteller!--your encouragement, wisdom, advice and most of all, the laughter. So much laughter. Happy heavenly birthday, Lonnie. Thank you for being my biggest cheerleader. (You'll be happy to know my WWII historical about the overlooked Flying Nightingales that you edited for me early on, is coming out in September. Wish you were here to see it. But I know you're cheering me on from heaven. Love you. Always.

I told a story about her this week and cried. And someone posted an old BPG group photo and I gasped, not expecting her there and remembering that day and all the days we sat at work together. To be real, it was work, then “did I ever tell you that story about___” and then the story, laughter, more work. And repeat. I keep seeing cardinals in odd places. I think she is now sending them to continue the game of the weirdest place to see one. 😂 I think and pray for you often, Joe. Happy birthday, L. Love, T

Dear Joe, May the new year bring you unexpected joy as you learn to live here below with Lonnie just out of reach. I remember that the first time there was a gorgeous sunset after Bob passed away, I thought, "I wonder what that looks like from the other side." Somehow it comforted me to imagine him enjoying the same sunset from heaven. Hugs to you.
