Welcome to Lizzie's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place as she kicks cancer's butt!
Lizzie was diagnosed with Wilms tumor (a type of kidney cancer).  She had a nephrectomy (kidney removal) and will be going through 19 weeks of chemo.
Lizzie appreciates your support, love and words of hope and encouragement.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Lizzie Bracken

Dear friends and family,

In this minute between Thanksgiving and Christmas, I wanted to give a little update and a lot of gratitude.  Thank you for all you have done for me.  Thank you for being so kind and generous.  Thank you for giving me the wisdom of your experiences, the comfort of your conversations, and all your funny jokes.  I feel like a million bucks (or several hundred bucks at least), and it's all because of you.

Treatment officially ended on Sept. 27th.  Since then I've had a CT Scan, an MRI, a party, a trip with my wonderful sisters, and an Notre Dame game/Family Reunion (GO IRISH!).  I've continued to teach at North Central College and I'm back to studying for the architecture licensing exams.  While the future feels wildly uncertain, I think it's off to a great start.  Again,  the difference between a "great start" and absolute panic is you.  So thank you.

Medically, here is the skinny.  The MRI was clean as a whistle.  Several parts of my body were mercifully referred to as "unremarkable".  I've never been so please to be called "unremarkable". They will scan me every 3 months for a couple years just in case.  In the mean time, my energy is coming back, and the peripheral neuropathy in my feet is improving everyday.  I'm not really back to actual running yet, but I'm feeling pretty hopeful.  My downward facing dog is certainly much less wobbly these days:)

I hope your thanksgiving was filled with love and friendship.  I hope each day of the holiday season is more beautiful than the last.  If you'd like to get some hot chocolate with me and Ben, or you'd like to check out some lights with a friend, or if you're a bit melancholy this time of year (I get that too) and you just want someone to watch Rosemary's Baby with (I'm too scared to watch it alone), give me a shout.  In the mean time, please know that I am thinking of you and how very wonderful you are.

Love,
Lizzie

p.s.  I'm not able to attach many pictures to this post, but I just threw a bunch up in the gallery.  It was nice to look back on so many smiles.
