On January 21st, 2018, Liza and Monroe (along with her friend Chelsie) were traveling on Interstate 85 on their way back from Raleigh, NC. Just south of the VA border near Henderson NC, they were rear-ended by a commercial truck causing major damage to the car. They were transported by ambulance to the emergency room. The accident injured Liza's neck  (C-2)and back areas and caused her second traumatic brain injury. (The  previous accident in 2000 required several years of recovery with 13 surgical procedures and implementation of pain management strategies prescribed by numerous doctors). Liza is still unable to drive or work. Her range of motion in her neck is than 1/3 of the typical adult. At this point, she is dependent on narcotics and muscle relaxants to manage her pain. Monroe and Chelsie also  both suffered concussions. Monroe is currently undergoing treatments including psychological, neurological care and physical therapy.
