Journal entry by Lisa Shaffer —
Hi all,
I am happy to say that it has been a month since my last chemo treatment! I rang the bell loud and proud!
I have really appreciated my life over these last few weeks. I have had time to reflect on the last six months, and I am somewhat overwhelmed by the love and support I have had from my family, friends, colleagues, students, players and their families. I am also completely grateful to my doctors and nurses. Their care was beyond what I could have asked for. I am especially grateful to the nurses that took care of me during my chemo treatments. Chemo is not easy, and they were a big part of helping me stay positive through it all.
This has been hands down the hardest thing I have ever been through. It tested me like nothing else. I am happy to say that I feel like I am an even stronger woman than I was before my cancer diagnosis. I would give anything for cancer not to exist, and I hope there is a future without it. That is my prayer...
I am thrilled to be getting back to school and to coaching. I am most happy, however, to still be here. I love my life and my boys so much! I am grateful to live each day and continue to be mom, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, teacher, and coach. I will never take a day for granted.

All my best,
Lisa
