Newest Update

Journal entry by Lisa Behrens

Hi everyone! Just wanted to update this since our appointment at Mayo on last Friday 4-16-21. So surgery was planned for today actually but after reviewing my new CT on Friday the doctors decided to postpone the surgery until I get another 3 rounds of chemo. My lymph nodes have shrunk by about 1/2 since chemo started but the doctors noticed a number of white spots showing up on my bones that they believe are cancer cells that have been killed by the chemo. They called these Sclerotic Bony Metastases (Not bone cancer) The white spots that are seen are now visible because its the bone healing, these didn't show up on the prior CT scans because the cancer was not visible at that time. They still haven't confirmed my type of cancer but now believe it is Peritoneal that may have originated from the ovaries. They are sending my biopsy slides into a specialty clinic to look for BRCA mutations and also HCD,  if these are identified they are wanting to put me on a new maintenance drug I believe called a PARP inhibitor that has been working very well. Russ just got off the phone with my oncologist at Mayo and he stated that my numbers and CT scan were encouraging so now we just need to see if the next round of chemo shrinks things even more so that we can get in for surgery. Round number 4 of the 6 total treatments starts tomorrow at Southeast Cancer Center in Lincoln and our return visit to Mayo is scheduled for June 25th.
