Lisa’s Story

Site created on February 23, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
Lisa's journey with cancer began in October of 2020 when her mother was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. Lisa and Chris welcomed her mother into their home to care for her as she began chemo treatment. Due to some unexpected weight loss, Lisa found a pea size nodule on her upper rib which led her to schedule a mammogram for herself.

On February 16th 2021, Lisa was diagnosed with cancer, Invasive ductal carcinoma (triple negative, stage 1). On March 19th, a day after her birthday, she will begin her first chemo treatment. Her program will be for 18 weeks with chemo treatments every 3 weeks. Post-Chemo she is scheduled for a double mastectomy and a possible hysterectomy. Her ultimate hope is to walk away in remission and continue this journey with a whole and healthy mind, body and spirit.

Journal entry by Catina Topash

First of all I want to thank everyone for their kindness, generosity, and guidance.  At this moment, after 2 chemo treatments (3rd is this Friday), I am doing well and feeling great.  I have been staying strong with my workouts and my 5 yogas a week.  In fact I even jumped in and started my teaching journey during all of this and have 3 classes under my belt! I have also been mowing my two yards on the weekends so overall I'm keeping up with everything and working at Wilson's regularly. I'm starting to focus more on the reconstructive surgery after the double mastectomy (around July 25th) and that is a little overwhelming to think about. Overall the experience hasn't been as bad as I anticipated because of the pouring out of love so from many of you so thank you from the bottom of my heart.
