The Power of Prayer

Hey everyone,
I wanted to share a story with you to remind you of the power of prayer.
My mom's last 2 bloodwork results have shown that her cancer markers are going up. She has a scan a week from today, which will answer a lot of our questions about how to proceed in her treatment. If her cancer has become immune to this chemotherapy, there is another one to try, and there are immunotherapy trials to consider after that. My mom is a fighter. She will beat this! I am asking you to read this story as a reminder to please keep Mom in your prayers daily so she can continue the fight.
Our family met up in Pawleys Island this past week. We are all trying our best to spend as much time as possible with Mom, while not exposing her to any new germs. It is tricky to say the least. In the beach house there is a decorative bird house that my mom painted probably 25 years ago. It hasn't moved in years and years. One morning last week, my mom noticed a piece of folded and taped paper leaning out of the birdhouse. No one put it there. She brought it over, cut it open and realized it was a letter I had written to God years ago. I was probably 8 when I wrote it, and I am 34 now.
The background to the letter is that my dad and I had bought a girlfriend hamster for my much loved Scooby Doo. The girlfriend bit a chunk out of his back, and we had to nurse him back to health. The girlfriend was quickly returned to the store, and I clearly felt awful. However, Scooby Doo did not die for years to come, so my letter worked. Since God listened then, I hope he will listen now. I will try this one more time...

Dear God,
This is really important! Please let my mom be alright. I love her a lot, and she has a ton of life still to come. Please let her pancreas and body heal, and comfort her pain and sickness from the chemotherapy. Please guide her doctors, nurses, friends and family in helping her. We are trying our very best, but we need your help.
Thank you very much,
Kate

(sorry Mom, I know that was so sappy, but if it worked before I have to do it again! Love you!)

Thank you all so much for your support and love! Please keep it coming.

Lots of Love,
Kate

  • Martha Case : Hi Kate and Linda- This is adorable. We’re all God’s children no matter how old and I do believe He will honor this prayer again. I’m an old Camp Pinnacle friend of Lucy’s and used to visit a Greenville a lot over the years. She and I are in touch regularly and I love her and her family. G’ville people used to tell me a lot that I looked much like “Aunt Linda” so I already had a soft spot for you in my heart, Linda. You’re an amazing lady with the sweetest family. . I’m so sorry you have to do this but I know God is fueling your faith, resolve and ability to fight. Praying for you in Spartanburg. Martha Case

  • Kathy Folks : I’m still praying for “Quinn” every day. Just prayed for the doctors to have discernment & determine the very best course of treatment & that it will be 100% effective in healing this cancer! Cancer is one of those awful things we don’t want anyone to have. These doctors are good & Quinn is a fighter! God is sovereign. Trust Jesus with all of this. I especially thought about all of you when we were at N. Litchfield recently & went over to Pawley’s to visit other family. Yes, I still prayed for you every day, Quinn - even on vacation! I’ve also prayed for the rest of the family, especially Earl who’s doing such a good job taking care of the patient. Know I care & remember I am praying. May healing mercies anoint Quinn. May the treatment destroy the cancer & good health be restored! Love & Prayers!!!!! Kathy Mitchell Folks
