Journal entry by Christina Carter —
Mom passed away peacefully a little after 4pm today. Richard and I were able to be with her along with our spouses. The last few days saw a marked increase in medication as we tried to stay ahead of her pain and she was more than ready to make the transition.
Instead of a service we invite you to remember mom the loving and joyous way she lived. Commit a random act of kindness, deliver yellow roses to brighten someone's day, take a walk outside with a loved one or friend, enjoy the beauty of the outdoors the way she did, and share some memories.
Mom's wishes were in line with dad's, that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Carter Friends and Family Scholarship at Skagit Valley College. www.skagitfoundation.org/givenow
This fund was set up when dad's parents passed in honor of their work to support community college education. Both of my parents attended community college before attending the University of Wyoming and believed in the importance of access to education and retraining for people from all walks of life. When dad passed away in 2014 we expanded what was then the Herb & Dorothy Carter scholarship to honor his work with the foundation, and it is a scholarship that Richard and I will maintain in honor of our parents and grandparents.
