Journal entry by Jan Heiden

Mom was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday, July 24 for dehydration. After tests they determined she had a bowel blockage. The doctor was hopeful that with medicine it would shrink. Unfortunately, it didn't. She had surgery to remove the blockage on Tuesday, July 31. During the surgery they found more cancer. The doctor removed as much as he could, but couldn't get all of it without damaging other organs. She still isn't clear from the medicine she had during the 8 hour surgery and the medicine she's receiving for pain management. She's a little confused when she is awake and communicating is difficult for her. Hopefully that will improve each day. We don't know when she will be leaving the hospital. She is receiving great care there and that's where she needs to be. At this point we aren't sure if chemo will be an option.
