Journal entry by Leslie Cantillo

Well its been a long time since I wrote, basically cause there has been nothing new to share. Over the past 2 months I have been focusing on just getting stronger. To date I feel like the "old" Leslie, but without hair!

A week ago today, I went down to Penn (University of Pennsylvania) to seek a second opinion re: chemo vs. no chemo. The Doc  was wonderful, but she was very much on the cuff and said it is a very gray area. She said if she polled her colleagues half would say continue treatment and the other would say stop treatment based on the fact that the  difference in statistics of reoccurrence and mortality the  % was very small with or without continued treatment. My tumor was small, margins were clean and nodes were negative, but above the "standard of care" guidelines for 'Triple Negative breast cancer" for getting chemo, which is why we started chemo in the first place. So my decision was to go back to my oncologist and do what ever he says, since he followed me from the beginning, through chemo and through Covid.

Yesterday I went back to see my doc and he said without a doubt, NO MORE CHEMO, the risk is too great considering how sick I got after the 1st dose, and we do not know what made me so sick, was it chemo or was it Covid?  And the statistics they way they are does not support the risk vs. benefit.

So with that being said, I am going to my surgeon tomorrow to have my port removed. I will need to follow up with oncologist every 3 mo. for at least 2 years and have frequent blood work, and also follow up with breast Doc for exams, no more mammograms, no more MRI's!

So I'm closing this chapter in my life, and will pray that I do not get a reoccurrence! Thank you everyone for the love and support you have given me over the last 6 mo. Words can not say how much I appreciate it!

Love, Leslie
