Leon’s Story

Site created on August 28, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.  On August 19th, at the Scott & White ER in Temple, Leon was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Colon Cancer. We soon learned it was inoperable and incurable due to the massive spreading.  As our life as we knew it changes, our faith in Christ grows stronger!

We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.  I hope to keep you updated as quickly as possible, please bare with me, as we are very busy with appointments and all.

If you'd like to help our family in any way - please click on "WAYS TO HELP" - we have set up a GO FUND ME page or email me at peelpaula@yahoo.com.
*Note: There has been a little confusion....Donations under "TRIBUTES" do not go to the family - they go to "Caring Bridge" to keep the website available to people like us free of charge which we appreciate as well. (Thank you!)

Newest Update

Journal entry by Jessica VanCloyd

It is with a heavy, yet peaceful heart that we share that Leon went home to be with God yesterday, February 3rd, 2020 at 3:40pm.

My sister and her family were able to visit him last week, and boy did he rally to be with all of us one last time! We are overwhelmingly thankful for the extra time that we had with him, and grateful that he is no longer suffering and has found rest. We have a great deal of peace about his journey home, and know that he is already partying away up in heaven, watching over us. Not everyone gets to experience the closure that we all were able to have with him in his final days. We are beyond blessed for all of the joy, tears, and love shared during that time.

In the end, Leon found great peace in speaking with those he loved, reading and returning letters from friends and loved ones, and speaking to God. His heart was filled with joy for the life he had while he was here, and for all that awaited him in heaven.
We want you all to know how fervently he enjoyed and appreciated each of you reading now. It is your love and support for him and for us as his surviving family that gave him hope for the world he was leaving behind, and peace to know that we are going to be okay. You've all played a big part in his spiritual journey at the end of his life, and provided him the comfort and confidence to know where he was going, and to let go of his fear.

I know my dad will always be with us, perhaps more than ever. I thank God that I will be able to carry him with me every day, and still hear his voice in my heart. I thank God that he has found peace and joy with his maker, and is rejoicing with Him and the rest of those we have lost.

Now, I pray for healing for my family. That the peace we feel triumphs over the pain of loss every day. May we take comfort in the memories we have been blessed with and knowledge that this is not goodbye, but simply "See you later."

Please be patient with us during this time - we may not get back to everyone right away when they leave us messages. Know that we love you and will get back to you soon. We are far stronger together, and know that we will make it through this thanks to people like you.

We will be honoring my dad by celebrating him together at my parents home soon, but have not been able to sort out details yet.
I will update with more information as soon as possible!
