Lenny’s Story

Site created on January 9, 2019

Lenny is a husband and father to three children. In September 2018 he was diagnosed with CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease) and informed that he would need a kidney/pancreas transplant.

This page was created for friends and family to have quick access to updates along this new journey we're traveling down.

Journal entry by Amber Bowen

Lenny had his second fistula surgery today. We arrived at the hospital at 5:30am. His surgery started about 8:30am and lasted around an hour. The surgeon met with me and informed me that the surgery went well and Lenny is doing great in recovery. The fistula will have to mature and we won't really know if this one takes for a while. He will have his follow up appointment on August 11th.

I wasn't able to see him for about 45 minutes. He was knocked out from pain medication. His arm was (and still is) sore, which is to be expected.

He'll need to work his arm by squeezing a stress ball all the time to try to get the vein working.

Oh and we sent his application to LSU and they received it. They will be reaching out to his local nephrologist for his records. They said they don't expect him to be waiting long with it being a double transplant. Our hope remains that he won't need dialysis.
Please keep him in your thoughts/prayers while we wait to see the results of this surgery and while we wait for that phone call. As always, I will share when we have more information. 💚
