Leigh’s Story

Site created on September 15, 2018

In 2016 I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s follicular lymphoma.  After six rounds of treatments and  spinal chemo I was in remission. In June 2018 I noticed a lump next to my ear. After several tests and biopsies the tumor was removed. It was discovered that this tumor was 80% my follicular lymphoma and 20% B cell lymphoma. The B cell is an aggressive cancer. I will have to endure 24 hr harsher chemo from last time. I  have to be in the hospital for three days each round, a bone marrow transfusion and a month stay in the Roswell hospital to replace my bone marrow and build up my immune system.  This approach is our best bet to make sure the lymphoma stays away and I am in remission once again!!!

Journal entry by Leigh Szablewski

So it’s official done with round 1!!!  I did very well in the hospital which is not what I was expecting. I had a wonderful set of nurses looking out for me. Never got nauseous just tired. I can’t believe I made it through 3 nights. I can’t imagine a month 😬 I’m resting at home still very tired and achy. It hurts to touch my face and neck. The chemo is breaking down the bad cells everywhere just not next to my ear. The first week is the toughest because I have no energy and get tired even going to the bathroom. So yes to all you that like to yell at me I’m not doing anything just laying on the couch or in bed. Letting everyone help around me. I can’t tell you how much we appreciate the meals being dropped off, the cards and gift cards from families at school, the shower of spiritual gifts. It truly is amazing and so thoughtful❤️❤️❤️ The community around us is helping us through this. We know we’re not alone and that’s helping me not worry about the kids and focus on getting better. I say to my kids everyday do something nice for someone and it will come back to you. A little bit goes along way, but nothing is ever too little. 😘😇🙏 Still #szablewskistrong💚
