Newest Update

Journal entry by Amy Wiederhold

The last update was not a happy one, but as we’ve learned with covid, we have ups and downs, and thankfully for Barry, ups again. The past week and a half has been a tough but crucial week for him. A week ago, we were looking at the possibility of getting reintubated. With help from the AMAZING nurses and providers at Northside Hospital Atlanta, I am happy to report that Barry is doing SO MUCH BETTER again! We are looking at the possibility of him transferring to an inpatient pulmonary rehab in Atlanta to continue to focus on repairing his lungs that have been so badly damaged by covid. Barry had been hospitalized for over a month at this point. To say that the progress he’s made and the hurdles he’s overcome are more than impressive, is an understatement. We continue to be amazed by his compliance, perseverance, and overall positive demeanor he’s been able to maintain. Everyone on the unit is invested in his recovery. We are overwhelmed by the support we’ve received from those near and far. We appreciate everyone’s continued thoughts and prayers and look forward to the day we’re able to say he’s heading home. In the mean time, this is still a huge victory and we are so very thankful! To everyone who has sent a positive note/ gift to Barry in the hospital, I want you to know that everything is proudly displayed in his room. ☺️ As I watch him start to write thank you notes, in addition to the 25 handwritten thank you notes and gift cards my aunt has sent the staff, I am humbled by kindness that a single person can possess. So hopeful!
