Laurie’s Story

Site created on July 13, 2019

Welcome to our “Team Laurie” CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated on Laurie in one place.

Laurie has been battling metastatic breast cancer for a while now, which unfortunately has spread to her brain. As you probably know, she had a brain tumor the size of a lemon removed earlier this year, and then started a chemo protocol at MUSC in the early spring. Unfortunately the brain tumors have multiplied and grown despite chemotherapy. She underwent radiation at SCOA for several treatments, however the negative side effects outweighed the palliative benefit, and that treatment has been discontinued. In short, it is a tough cancer with a sad outcome.

She was discharged to home hospice on Monday with comfort and peace as priorities. She will need to have someone with her 24/7 to keep her company, manage her medicine, help with meals and just generally keep an eye on her since these nasty brain tumors have thrown off her balance and thought processes. Although today there is a sweet family member with her 24/7, that is not a long term solution. Maybe you’d like to help?

We’ll set up a schedule of sitters and food providers going forward. Feel free to comment here or shoot Alice Ann a text at 919-612-4300. We’ll start a Bring Them a Meal link shortly. Laurie (who is currently completely food obsessed) had an idea of people bringing their favorite personal specialty to share!

Many prayers are needed for Laurie, Norman, Wallace and Nellie.

Journal entry by AliceAnn Reu

An idea was presented that some of Laurie’s friends might like to band together to help support /cover some of Laurie’s funeral expenses.   Personally, I think it is a lovely idea and a nice way to share one of the big moments of her life. Maybe you’re interested?

If you’d like to donate in some way, please make a check payable to Norah Grimball who has kindly agreed to  coordinate gifts.  Any leftover funds will go into Nellie’s education account.

Contact Norah 843-224-2114 to arrange your gift or Venmo her at @Norah-Grimball.

There is no certainly expectation,  just an option if you’d like to help in this particular way.  Thanks as always for your love, prayers and best wishes.
