Medical update for Laurie:
On Tuesday night, Laurie experienced a drop in her oxygen levels. She was taken to the hospital and admitted a telemetry room in the ICU (a room that specializes in monitoring her heart and lungs). The doctors discovered fluid around her lungs and her heart. The doctors removed approximately a liter of fluid from her chest cavity and are monitoring the fluid around her heart. As of this post, she is still in the hospital as the medical team tries to figure out what caused the buildup of fluid and ensure her condition does not deteriorate.
What caused this buildup of fluid is still unknown. The doctors did a CT scan and are taking continual X-rays of her chest to see if they can identify what might be happening. Continued prayers are appreciated for Laurie as this healing journey continues. It's understandably difficult and exhausting for her.
We want to recognize Jan Eisenschenk for her support this past week. She flew out from Minnesota to give Melissa a break and has been wonderful in helping support our family. Thank you Jan for all that you have done.
A $25 donation to CaringBridge powers a site like Laurie's for two weeks. Will you make a gift to help ensure that this site stays online for them and for you?
