Journal entry by Tj Lesher —
Sorry I've been bad about updates. We've had a couple of rough visits, and it was hard for me to formulate words to provide an update as they had been talking about us needing to prepare for "end of life". My mom hadn't been eating, and it was looking like her body was struggling to tolerate the chemo, making it likely we would have to discontinue treatment. However, last visit they prescribed medication to help increase appetite, which has not only increased her appetite but also her energy level and ability to stay awake. She had her appointment with the oncologist today after having scans and blood work. There's a new 7mm spot on her left lung. They're not 100% sure if it's cancer or inflammation and don't want to do a biopsy. They're going to monitor it. Platelets are still high, which is linked to poor prognosis, and her hemoglobin is down, which doesn't make sense to the doctor since her energy levels have actually been better lately, so they're repeating the blood work today. She still gets chemo today and will have a brain scan tomorrow.
