Journal entry by Laura Crandall

Friends, on Monday there were rumblings throughout the Mayo campus that I could be leaving the next day. Turns out, that was true. I was cleaned up and rolled out to the curb before noon, and a lovely lyft driver took us home. We took a nap immediately and then made a slow walk to Dunkin, where I redeemed my life-threatening surgery achievement award: a free donut. I've been enjoying being back at the hotel ever since.

When I think back on last Tuesday, I'm really glad it's now this  Tuesday. I hope to see some of you soon, and this will be my last post! If you want to connect with me without leaving a blog message, just email me at

Thanks for being with me during all of this. It was great to get my thoughts down because there's no way I would remember.

In the pictures I've posted are the chest xray of my Nuss bar for the pectus repair. If you look at the center where my spine is, you can see they've wired my ribcage together. My chest looks totally different, and I'm excited to see what it looks like at the end of six weeks.
