Newest Update

Journal entry by Laura Lystrup

(Neil) Laura has been at the Kaiser Vallejo Rehab Center for two weeks today and is making good progress.  She receives 4 and a half hours of therapy a day and all the staff remarks how motivated she is.   Communication is still a challenge and her right side is paralyzed requiring assistance for most activities.   We see progress every day but it will be a long road.   Neil came in a week ago to stay with her in her room and provide support and encouragement.   His comment is “it’s like a Danish prison - I get to wear my own clothes and they don’t lock the doors but you can’t leave.”   The kids are staying at the house and feeding the dogs and the grandkids are living the Life of Riley with a couple of hours in the pool each day and a big park across the street.  So making the best of it all around.   Laura will be discharged home on Friday the 14th and will require a lot of home health care but will improve with time.  I think she’s received over 60 cards so far and while she can’t really process the messages yet, we’ll keep them for her for when things improve.  I don’t get a lot of time to myself to write thank you notes or individual updates or calls but know that all your kind words and prayers are appreciated.
