Journal entry by Laura Anne Welch

Greetings to my friends and family this March 3, 2019.

It’s a new year and a time for new opportunities and for moving forward. What a good feeling to be able to soak in life and be present. I am very happy and grateful to be able to say that my quarterly blood test and CT scan came out clean this past week.😀  I am given more days to live cancer free for now. Thank you all for your support and prayers during my journey.

Yesterday, March 2, was the 1-year anniversary of my last treatment. It was my last day at the radiation clinic. I am so happy to be here 1 year later to celebrate. I have included a photo of my bathroom sink 1 year ago, and one of the much improved view, today. I had forgotten how many creams, sprays, wig paraphernalia, makeup accessories, and painkillers I was using during the radiation and the recovery from the surgery. It is a blessing to be able to have a more simple routine each day now.

Life moves on and I have tried to do the things that I love doing, as much as my time and energy allow. In January I was able to go visit my mom in Birmingham and we had some great times together. I surprised her with tickets to Swan Lake at a lovely old theater downtown, and it was quite the treat. We also got to renew our friendship with Sherita, one of Daddy’s caregivers. She has stayed in touch with us since Daddy passed away. What fun to catch up with her and share in her joy as she is expecting a third child. You’ll see other photos in the gallery of the delicious food we were able to try out, and Mom’s evening supper group at her retirement home.  At home, I’ve been able to walk on my mountain through the winter months, as the weather allows. I always find beautiful views and vistas. I love that the other visitors like to create “rock art” with the loose rocks in the park. It is fun to see what they concoct. I’ve included one of the more recent sculptures in my photo gallery.

You’ll see a few choice photos of the girls and our escapades. We always have fun whenever we get to spend the morning or afternoon together. Recently we decided to do some early Easter egg coloring, and made a huge mess. But it was worth it, when Britta was able to hand her mom a basket full of VERY colorful eggs! 😅

There have been a few ups and downs at work lately, but for now I am staying where I am and continuing to do what I love. I love helping the customers who come in asking for assistance and advice. It is a very rewarding job. Change is inevitable in the business world, so you have to decide how you are going to handle it. For now, I’ll hold my ground and stay for my customers.

Much love to all of you, and blessings to you as Spring comes our way. I’m not sure what Punxsutawney Phil decided on February 2,  but I’m pretty sure we are having a very very late winter here in Texas! We are expecting several days of deep freezes… hopefully Spring is close behind!

Love to everyone.😍
