Larry’s Story

Site created on October 2, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

For over a decade, my father has had a condition called Myasthenia Gravis, a neurological condition that is caused by the breakdown in communication between nerves and muscles.  It has been impacting his eyesight / vision on and off again for this period.

On September 25th, Larry experienced what is classified as a myasthenia crisis, an event that has the symptoms of difficultly seeing, swallowing, speaking, as well as muscle weakening in other parts of the body, and he was admitted to Toledo Hospital ER.

He has since moved out of the ER and ICU, but is still in the Hospital while being rehabilitated and treated for the condition.

We will continue to update this site, and my mother Diane and the whole family are very grateful for the outpouring of thoughts, prayers, and support coming in as we continue to work through this challenging time.

Journal entry by Diane Emch

Hi Everyone,
This  myasthenia crisis has been quite a journey for Larry and me ,as Larry
was in & out of the hospital & rehab for 45 days! We can't even begin to thank everyone
for all the support that that has been  given to us through prayers, cards, food, flowers, and expressions of
concern.Home Health Care is coming to the house along with physical therapy, which will start next week.
The PEG is taking the pressure of having to eat for nutrition away, and Larry is beginning to eat some softer
foods. The goal is to make eating pleasureable again. We are taking "baby steps" but progress is being made, and hopefully Larry will soon regain his strength, and ability to eat  and enjoy more  variety of foods.

God Bless All of You
Larry&Diane
