Larry’s Story

Site created on November 8, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and continued prayer.   This past weekend, Nov 4th, at a family dinner, we noticed Larry was jaundice.  He went to the doctor the following day and was admitted to the hospital that night.  His liver levels and and billiruben levels were very high.  A CAT scan was done immediately which revealed a tumor at the top of his pancreas.  We are awaiting results of further testing and biopsy.  Updates will be posted as we know them.  As you can imagine, this is a very hard time for our family and it is becoming increasingly hard to update all the thousands of people that care so much for Larry.  We were able to move Larry and Jill to their new home over the weekend.  A few weeks earlier than planned but Larry really wanted to come home to his new place when he was released from this hospital.  As of today,  Nov 8th, he is home resting, enjoying his new place and will likely be back online in the next few days, working on books, emails, Facebook and words with friends.  He is under the care of the best doctors possible at Anschutz. We do have a meal train set up for those that are able to provide help with dinners.  If you would like to send flowers or cards, please reach out for their new address. Please keep Larry in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this journey.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Christine Ellis Kosoff

On this eve of the 1 year anniversary of Larry's passing, we wanted to give you all a check in. This time last year we were enjoying our last sacred moments with dad. We set up the Christmas decorations early so he could enjoy them (a tradition some of plan to continue). This time of year will likely be hard for us forever but we are trying to focus on eachother and the joy that our many family and friends bring us.

Larry promised Jill she would get the kitchen she always wanted.  As many of you know, she just completed the remodel.  Ill attach a photo. Dad was able to help pick out their new range and give his input into the design which makes it all the more special.

We have been busy trying to accomplish all the many tasks he assigned to us. I have taken over his web hosting business. Jill is now the owner of his publishing company (but dont ask us to publish anything-we aren't in the market for more work). We are working with a couple others to finish the edits and publishing of Larrys last book about Judiasm from a Christian perspective. We have been going through his library and shipped his regalia off to IWS per his request.

They say death changes you and it does.  I believe through dads death, the Holy Spirit has worked his magic and brought us together at St. Gabes (dads church). Jill is back in the choir, I am enjoying helping with the children's programs and Jonathan joined vestry and is about to have his 2nd year as Bishop Nicholas (dad used to play this role every year). The kids often go visit with papa after the service and give him notes and talk to him. We have all found different ways to serve and its been life changing.

Jill jokes that he calander is more busy now in retirement than it ever was before and she isn't wrong.  I do believe she is adjusting to this new stage in life with grace although it isn't easy.

We recently learned that Larry's sister Sue Ann has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer as well. We ask that you please pray for her and her family as they navigate this all too familar road.  May God spare her from pain as He did with Larry.

We are going out to his favorite breakfast spot tomorrow and then going to visit him together.  Followed by dinner with his cousin and her husband.

Thank  you all for everything you have done to support us in the last year and before. We miss Larry so much as I know many of you do too.

With love,

Christine
