Landyn’s Story

Site created on December 2, 2019

On November 15, 2019, Landyn collapsed at school.  He was administered compressions and transferred by ambulance to Avera Marshall.  He had an EKG and CT scan which showed an enlargement of his heart and abnormal EKG.  They referred us to Sanford Children's Hospital where they performed an echocardiogram.  The echocardiogram showed Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy which is a thickening of the heart muscle.  We were then transferred by plane to the University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital.  Landyn underwent numerous testing and will need a heart transplant soon.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Jenni Berends

Just wanted to update on things. Landyn's heart cath last week was identical to January's heart cath which means Landyn responded to the 3 doses of steroids.  He did an echo on day of discharge which showed little improvement in his ejection fraction.  He was safe enough to return home last Tuesday.  Dustin, Landyn and I headed to Rochester last night for his appointments today. His echo did not change again and his BNP and troponin levels are elevated. This could be elevated due to the rejection, steroids and heart cath.  It was deemed that Landyn should restart his tacrolimus medication to see if we can get things to settle down. He will return next Monday to see if there is any improvement.  Please keep him in your prayers that his heart continues to improve and stabilize.
