LaFrieda’s Story

Site created on March 7, 2019

Hello Family and thanks for visiting my page. I am using Caring Bridge as a way to keep my love one's informed on my care and progress. My cancer journey began October 2017. It was around this time my doctor's scheduled me for a Breast MRI. Unfortunately we found out I am claustrophobic. Johnie was going to go back with me to try again, but because he was so ill I opted to just do a biopsy. The results from which came back negative and I was advised to follow-up in 6 months. I was scheduled for a total hysterectomy in January of 2018 and moved it to February due to my husband’s illness. So with that said I had the surgery in February and he passed in April. Needless to say my mind was not on my health and when I finally went back for another mammogram and ultrasound they wanted another MRI. This time my ultrasound tech said she would come with me and hold my hand. So I went they gave me valium (which did nothing), and had the test. Then there was a request for another biopsy, which this time came back positive for Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. I was advised of this information on November 6, 2018. To say it’s been a year is an understatement, but I am blessed. Follow along on my journey as I want to not only share but inform. Love you.

Journal entry by LaFrieda Mannor-Helm

Hello my loves,
I’ve made no posts or mentioned the fact that is is Breat Cancer Awareness month, and I bet some of you have wondered why. Well, October is more than that to me and the next few months will mark major milestones.
Before I explain let me report that, I have seen all my doctor in the last 6 weeks and even had a mammogram. Due to my muscle and bone pain I take a new med but I have that handled. I had a bone density test, which came back good. The reason for that test was the pill I will take for the next 10 years can cause osteoporosis🤦🏽‍♀️. Heart function is still great, with only 6 more infusions to go this is wonderful. Mammogram was good as well, will have them every 6 months and see my breast specialist accordingly. There are other issue, for my women think of being in massive menopause 🤦🏽‍♀️. My hair is growing back and I got my nails done😁😁. I am feeling good and looking forward to the Holidays days.
So let’s talk about the next few months. I can feel the emotions starting within and some mornings I cry, but I know God is with me and has kept me. It was in October that I had the MRI and biopsy that lead to my diagnosis. November 6 will mark the day I found out, January 15 is my surgery day, January 28th is when I found out my true diagnosis and possible treatment plan. I meet my Oncologist on February 10th. Started treatment in March.
I am a ball of emotions under the smile I present daily. Well that’s it❤️😘
