Newest Update

Journal entry by Kimberly Soliz

Kyras surgery went well on 4/24. Were blessed that they were able to remove the entire tumor from her chest. Most of the possible scenarios that could have happened during surgery, did NOT, and we are especially thankful for that. Were doing good with pain management. My little trooper is strong and been making an effort to be moving and up, so that will help to get the chest tube out faster once the residual fluid are out that needed to come out. Kyra is so strong and has such spirit that we are hoping it will stay with her and carry her through the next year or more of treatment. We are also trying to help her maintain that strength and confidence. After recovery from her surgery, we will proceed to round 6 of chemo. Next step after recovery from round 6 is preparing for her Bone Marrow Transplant, she will be receiving and autologous transplant. They already removed her stem cells after round 2 of chemo and will be essentially killing her bone marrow then using her own stem cells to help it recover. She is basically her own donor. The BMT will be probably atleast an 8 week stay at the hospital. Once we get through that, depending on its results, we will move towards radiation therapy then immunotherapy. Kyra still has a long road ahead of her, lots of treatment that will take its toll on her but also in the fact that it will delay her for the things she was looking forward to, one of which was being able to go to school like her sisters. As a family we will try to continue to update her page, and to whomever is reading her story or trying to keep up on her updates, please continue to send prayers, well wishes and/or positive thoughts our way. For those who can, please also continue to share her fundraising page. The treatment is happening in towns that are both 70 and 95 miles away from us. Majority of care is being done at the hospital that is 70 miles away. The facility that is 95 miles away was for the stem cell recovery and where she will receive her bone marrow transplant.
