Kyle’s Story

Site created on March 25, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website for Kyle.  We are using this as a way to keep family and friends updated on how Kyle is doing.  We so appreciate your prayers and words of  encouragement as we all navigate this difficult time.

Kyle has faced may challenges throughout his life.  Each has required him to draw upon personal strength and determination in overcoming odds.  This health crisis will be no different!  He persists with the steadfast love and support of his family, fiancé and her family, as well as a renewed faith in God.  Kyle has shown great resilience in the past, addressing issues and rebuilding as needed.  His life has seldom been orderly; playing out in a way that made sense to few others.  But Kyle has always “owned” it and relished in the uniqueness of his being!  Regardless of his personal predicament, Kyle gives freely of himself and advocates for those in less fortunate circumstances.  A greater sense of calm seems to have washed over Kyle as he has reflected on his life in recent months.  Now let us take a calming breath for Kyle, and let our love and confidence in his spirit carry us through this tough period.

Journal entry by Karin Schuelke

Well, Kyle has been moved into a “regular room”.  Straight from the ICU to our home!

Kyle was seen by a physical therapist yesterday afternoon to help him get out of bed and take a 1st walk around his ICU room.  A little shaky, but it felt great to be upright!  Then they took him off his oxygen in the evening to allow him to sleep without that support.  An x-ray of his lungs at 5am today, showed adequate improvement.  His doctor did a final check of vitals at 11am, the nurse removed his IV around 1pm, and by 3pm Kyle had his discharge papers!   We were all a bit surprised, but a hospital is not a healthy place to hang out while recovering from a serious illness.  There is just no place like home!!  Kyle and Amy will be staying with us for at least another week so he can regain strength and follow-up with his primary care provider.  He’s not quite ready for the high-country and the flights of stairs leading to their condo!

Kyle is so very thankful to the lifesaving ER & ICU teams at Parker Adventist Hospital.  And, exceptionally grateful for the love and prayers you all have sent his way!  All thanks to God for putting Kyle in the right place at just the right time.
