My sweet friend Kristin, a first grade teacher at Mineola Primary School is having to undergo back surgery, February 25th.
After Kristin had severe pain and losing all feeling in her left leg, she went to the hospital and had an MRI. Within 10 minutes of having the MRI, she got the phone call she would have to have emergency surgery on her spine. She went and met with the surgeon and found out between L4 and L5 her disc is completely ruptured and between L5, and S1 is also ruptured.. Several other lumbars are bulging and she has tears in 5 other disc. Upon learning she has degenerative disc disease and that this may not be her last surgery, Kristin is devestated. This is Kristin’s second year as a teacher and MISD and the thought of being out, and missing out on her sweet students has been the hardest thing to deal with. Her surgery will be Monday and then she will be out of the classroom for 3-4 weeks. She will begin therapy at week 5 and continue for several weeks, learning how to walk again and hopefully gaining full feeling back in her left leg and foot. Since Kristin is only on her second year a teaching, she doesn’t have enough sick days built up so she will be without pay for several weeks.
In the past few months, Kristin has lost 53 lbs and 63 inches. She has worked her hardest to maintain her health and keep a healthy life style to have a joyful energy for her students.
I am hoping to help Kristin stay in good spirits and take donations and prayers for this trying time.
