Kristie’s Story

Site created on January 9, 2020

So... this thing happened, or I should say, is happening.  Long story short, I have been diagnosed with Ovarian Clear Cell Carcinoma (OCCC) 😕.... My prognosis is good (Stage 1) but the struggle is real (18 straight weeks of Chemo).  Given that, I wanted to have a place that would allow me to offer updates and information without anyone having to "wait" on me to text (apparently Chemo Brain is a thing and I don't want to miss texting anyone who is wanting updates).  You are welcome to read & respond here or you can text me anytime.  Thank you all for journeying with me in this CRAZY season.

Journal entry by Kristie Mccollister

"Clear eyes, full heart.. can't lose"  If you watched Friday Night Lights, you are familiar with that quote.  It was always a great motivational phrase for Coach Taylor to end his pre-game or half-time speeches to keep his players focused in on what is important.  There were definitely times during the last 18 weeks that I needed to be reminded to keep my eye on the end goal and that enduring the weekly assault on my body would defeat this crazy cancer within me.... well, today is the day that all of us have been waiting for:

CT Scan is CLEAR!!!!

I talked with Lindsay (the oncologist nurse practitioner) today and it doesn't sound like they are going to do any “maintenance” meds but Dr. Tenney is checking in with a few other doctors to see if they have used a parp inhibitors for Stage 1 patients. Basic follow up will be checking my CA 125 levels (bloodwork) and a physical exam every 3 months for the next 2 years 😳. They are going to keep my port in for a year so will need to get that flushed out every 6-8 weeks but that is quick and easy. As for how long it will take for my body to recover, she said the general rule of thumb is twice as long as you were on Chemo - so it will be around 36 weeks for me to feel "normal".  However, I can already say that every day I feel a little stronger so that is encouraging.  Just got to get my body back into some semblance of routine so it can build up strength and endurance again.  All in due time I guess (a new thing to be patient about).

Bottom line, I am CANCER FREE and that is a beautiful thing to be able to say 🙌

Anyway, just wanted to pass along the good news 😃

Thanks for walking this road with me and for loving me well.

💕,
Kristie
