Journal entry by Kristen Notte —
Well, August is not shaping up to be a boring month. Have once again landed myself in jail. Wait, I think it’s actually called the hospital not jail. At least the correctional officers, I mean nurses, are nice. This time I was running crazy fevers and bad lower abdominal pain. I was started on Levaquin for a UTI on Friday the 14th but things continued to get worse. On Sunday night, I finally called uncle and went to the ER. After lots of bloodwork and a CT, they discovered I have an abscess between my bladder and some loops of bowel. I was admitted Sunday night and here we are Wednesday and I have been on a round the clock rotation of IV Vancomycin, Flagyl and Zosyn (all antibiotics). A drain was placed yesterday (Tuesday) in my abdomen to try to suction out what was left of the abscess/infection they weren’t able to get yesterday. Not sure how long I will have my little friend yet. Hopefully we will not have time to become BFF’s. My fevers finally broke Monday into Tuesday and so I was able to get the blood transfusions I needed yesterday too. We are hoping to have cultures back tomorrow so I can get started on the right oral antibiotics and get out of here if the rest of my bloodwork looks good. I’m still barely eating though and I’m guessing I’m up to 25-30 pounds lost recently (it was 20 on Sunday). It’s been a trying couple of weeks for sure but I’m starting to feel like the light at the end of the tunnel is the sun and not a train. Thanks for everyone’s thoughts and prayers.
