Kris’s Story

Site created on December 31, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

As many of you know, Kris had been fighting a lung condition known as bronchitis for several years. This condition had improved to mild state. She had also been treated for a weakened heart condition which had improved significantly to where medications were not needed.

Starting in April of 2021 Kris contracted pneumonia. She was admitted into the hospital for several days followed by a daily regimen of antibiotics that lasted ten days. On the final day of this treatment, while at the hospital, her heart began to fail. She was diagnosed with CHF (congestive heart failure). Her bronchitis had now progressed into Bronchiectasis. We started her with a new primary physician (an internist) along with a cardiologist and pulmonologist. Since then her condition has improved and gotten worse over time like a roller coaster. Each decline has been precipitated by a pneumonia. Most recently she was in the hospital for eight days with pneumonia and has declined to the point where at home Hospice was recommended. At home Hospice was set up on 12/29/21. They family hope is that she would recover, but if she should pass away it will occur in her own home among family and friends. We thank everyone for your prayers and support.

Journal entry by Mike McKarcher

My brothers and I would like to thank all of you who helped make the Memorial such a special event. We are quite sure Mom enjoyed the evening from heaven.

We would like to thank Heather for managing the dining for the reception, a big project; it went off very well. Beth was in charge of the beautiful flowers on all the dining tables. The table displays in Foyer and sanctuary flowers/pictures were headed up by Hannah and Rebekah and turned out stunningly beautiful. The slideshow was excellent, we have Ava to thank for that. Thanks also to all of you who hustled to get her pictures (sorry Ava, I know I was a bit tardy).

Of course, the service was beautiful and deeply moving. Everyone who spoke did an amazing job. I haven’t yet, but plan to watch again to remind myself of the many different memories, insights, and exhortations that family members, Pastor Mark Brewster, and Pastor Nick Hasselstrom related to us. Also, a special thank you to Pastor Brewster for his experienced advice in behind the scenes planning.

Finally, we know there were many friends and family not mentioned who generously helped with set up/clean up and provided delicious food for the reception to honor our mother.  We are humbled and grateful to you all.
