Journal entry by Kimberly Rushing

Wow, where to start.  Today was a busy day. We went to the oncologist to go over his CT scan.  The radiologist has not submitted his review of the scan but from what the oncologist could tell it has not grown much at all.  That is amazing, considering he hasn't had chemo in about 6 weeks.  They are going to change his chemotherapy treatment when he starts back in about 3 weeks.  In the mean time they are going to do radiation on the tumor in his rectum.  This will help the most.  That is the one that hurts the most.  During our visit we were able to see his images from the recent CT scan.  The masses on his liver are huge.  Unsure how his labs are so good, but they are.

We talk to the pharmacist about all of the medication that they have him on now, side effects and stuff.  That never happened at LBJ in Houston.  The attention to detail and care is amazing.  I love how they have been treating him at Brown Cancer Center.

After we talked to the pharmacist the nurse came in to sign us out.  To our surprise we had an additional visitor.  The nurse navigator.  She came in and said that the radiation oncologist was able to see Korey right then. What???? yes, before we could leave they already got an appointment with the radiation oncologist. I got chills.  So off we go to the radiation office....

Next we got to talk to the doctors about his options for radiation.  They had already talked to his main oncologist.  After some discussion the decision is to start radiation next Monday (planning CT scan on 09/10/2019).  They are going to do a week of radiation and then do another CT scan and see how it reacted, and then he does (1) radiation for another week, or (2) has a colostomy to get rid of the pain he is experiencing.

In conclusion we are on the right track and Korey feels so much better with this team.  He has hope again and feels like he is able to handle everything.  Prayers are being answered!
