Journal entry by Whitley Hoover —
Since we were in the middle of moving when we got the diagnosis for Kora we had to start over with her new pediatrician. Once we got here we went to see her pediatrician and he sent in the referral to UAB pediatric neurosurgery. We just had her appointment on the 3rd of September and the Drs there agreed with the neurosurgeon in Albuquerque that she does have craniosynostosis. We went over all her options for surgery and have decided that she will have a cranial vault remodeling (aka CVR) in November.
A CVR is typically performed for babies 5-6 months of age or older. Kora will have a team of surgeons that will make an incision along her scalp from ear to ear. Then they will make cuts into the skull so they can reshape the skull so that the brain will have adequate space to grow.
As of now we are just waiting for the Drs to call us with a date and time for surgery. All we know is that it will be in November. Please keep us in your prayers!
