Kolleen’s Story

Site created on October 26, 2021

Kolleen chose to have gastric bypass surgery to better her life on Wednesday October 20, 2021. Unfortunately, recovery did not go as planned and complications resulted in multiple surgeries and interventions to save her life. Kolleen is intubated and on bypass to keep her lungs working and has severe sepsis and pneumonia. We are a family built of strength and faith and are putting this in God's hands. She is making small improvements and those milestones are keeping us positive. She is not out of the woods by any means. In the mean time, love, support, and prayers mean more than anything. If you feel so inclined to donate to her GoFundMe please do so with the link on this page. Both incomes are now affected as he has to take this time off unpaid to be by his wife's side. If you are not comfortable with GoFundMe but wish to help in that way, contact us for an address.

We will update this page as much as we can!

The Puffer Family would like to thank you for your prayers and support!

Journal entry by Gina Allen

Here is the latest we have...sorry its been some time. This from Uncle Kip.

Kolleen is out of the OR now. Unfortunately things did not go as planed. They went down Kolleens throat to see about putting a stent and discovered that the stomach and the intestine were totally detached. As you remember this area was problematic due to the tissue not holding stitches to well, how it separated is unknown could have been when Kolleen pulled the tube out. But there not sure. So what does this mean:
1) some day down the road as Kolleen continues to heal she will have to have an operation to reattach her stomach to her intestine after she heals a while.
2) she will continue to receive the food through a tube into her intestine direct, nothing by mouth till they connect everything again.
3) Her stomach wound will continue to close and may need a graft eventually, again this will take time.
4) Kolleen will still go to a rehab facility (soon) to continue to heal and strengthen her legs, arms, voice etc.
5. Kolleen will have to have checkups to check things internal and to monitor progress for another shot at re-attaching her stomach and intestine.
6. Feeding by tube will have to be worked out in the future till things get better and intestine can be re-attached.
I know that this is not the news we were expecting. And hopes took a little hit. Another delay but look how far we've come. We will maintain the course and address setbacks as they surface, we still have Kolleen and she still has us.
That's the best I can explain for now.
Love you all...
