Kimberly’s Story

Site created on May 8, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. On May 7, 2019 after some challenging health problems over the last few months, Kimberly was diagnosed with a form of blood/plasma cancer called Multiple Myeloma. This is an aggressive cancer and so treatment is already beginning with a chemo today. We are using this site  to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. We’ll keep updates here too. Thank you for visiting.

Journal entry by Kim Jongejan

Day +575 since my stem cell transplant. I can’t believe it. So thankful that my time here is still ticking, and that I’m hanging in there. It will be two years since my diagnosis on the 7th of May. At that time I was in such excruciating pain, confused and scared too.
Look at how so much has happened since!!!
The steadfast LOVE of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end. They are new every morning. Great is his faithfulness.

Our family is all vaccinated and we were fortunate to have stayed healthy.  For my current regimen to keep the cancer in response (remission basically) I take
a nightly dose of chemo orally for three weeks and then one week off. The side effects are a pain (hot sweats, periodic neuropathy, muscle spasms, fussy bowels off and on…) but
not so bad. I do still have some pain in my bones, but not at all what it was.

I still consider this journey as both a big challenge and a big opportunity. Am I glad I got it? Well… no not like that, but there has been so much good that arrived I am in awe so often. Beauty from ashes right?

Thanks all for your continued prayers. May you be blessed.
