Kim’s Story

On January 25th, our dad suffered a massive heart attack. He was riding in the passenger seat of the car (with our mom driving) and stopped breathing. One of his friends was following behind them and was able to start CPR fairly quickly. A police officer happened to drive by and took over compressions until EMT arrived on scene. The paramedics were able to revive him after a couple of uses of the defibrillator and several minutes of CPR so they transported him to the hospital.

Once he arrived at the hospital, he was taken to the cardiac cath lab where they placed two stents in the main artery of his heart. The cardiologist sedated him and started cooling down his blood in order to allow him to use less energy. We were told that we will not know the extent of the heart and/or brain damage for a few days.

What a change today has been. Dad is off the ventilator and 100% breathing on his own. He is no longer on the cooler or under any sedation... he is awake and talking! He still has a long journey ahead of him and isn’t close to being “okay” yet but we will take this win.
