Journal entry by Kimber Billow

Hello friends and family,

As some of you may know, Dad was admitted to Cape Cod Hospital Intensive Care Unit on Saturday.  We had a wonderful vacation in the Dakotas with our entire family and close family friends the Eckels and the Frames.  Dad was in great spirits and we all had a blast and made many beautiful memories.  Upon returning to the Cape Dad was exhausted as we expected him to be, but by the end of the week he didn't seem to be returning to his previous baseline before the trip.  After having a number of conversations with Dad and Kimber last week we decided that I would come to Truro and to help out and see what was going on.  When I arrived on Friday night Dad got up from his chair and greeted me at the door, we stayed up a couple of hours chatting and what not.  He seemed weak and wobbly on his feet but was able to get around slowly.  However the next morning (Saturday) Kimber came and got me up because Dad had been speaking incoherently and could not get out of bed.  We tried to get him on his feet but he was too weak and his mental status had obviously changed.  Kimber called 911 and we followed behind the ambulance to Hyannis.  In the ER they first ruled out stroke and they are still looking for a  source of infection and possible sepsis-- we do know that he was severely dehydrated and his blood pressure was very low, and that because of that his kidneys, brain and other organs took a hit. Sunday (yesterday) Kimber and I returned to see Dad and he was already doing MUCH better-- awake, coherent and with a normal blood pressure.  Today we are with him in the ICU still but they are planning on transferring him to a regular floor as soon as a bed is available.  Although Dad is still feeling foggy he is in good spirits and on the mend.  We are so grateful for all of the amazing and kind care he has received here at Cape Cod Hospital, as well as for all of your thoughts and prayers.  We are so blessed to have such a supportive community of family and friends, thank you all so much <3

With hope and love,  Kimber and Erin
