Kiara’s Story

Site created on July 7, 2021

For the last year Kiara has been experiencing numbness and tingling in her limbs, feet, and hands. On 6/13/21, the day after she and Natalie's wedding, Kiara started experiencing pain in her left eye and thought she may have scratched it. She went to see an optimologist on 6/20/21 and they said her eye was really swollen. She was then referred to get an MRI scan, with Dr. Beebe, on 7/1/21.  The MRI revealed that multiple parts of her brain are swollen, the biggest swelling behind her left eye. Kiara was given the diagnosis of Multiple Sceloris (MS) within an hour of her appointment.

First series of Methylprednisolone steroid treatment is through!
(I was mistaken in the last post, the name of the steroid is not Ocrevus. Octrevus is the name of a potential medical treatment that affects the B and T cells in the immune system, telling them to back the F off.)

Kiara is cramping and feeling frustrated with not being able to identify MS symptoms vs steroid side-effects. She is returning to work today, for hopes that she can get back into her normal life routine.

She had another MRI scan on Sunday, and we are waiting for Dr. Beebe to take a look and see if a spinal tap is needed for a full diagnosis. Kiara will also report her side-effect syptoms.

She will meet with Dr. Conway in September, who is an MS specialist and will work with Kiara on a treatment plan and prognosis.
