Kia’s Story

Site created on March 9, 2021

Last month (2/7/2021) I felt a lump in my left breast (my mom and grandma both died from breast cancer) well after a doctor appointment (2/10/2021), ultrasound (2/22/2021) and biopsy (2/26/2021) my OBGYN called me 3/2/2021 and informed me that the biopsy of the lump and a lymph node of concern both came back positive for malignancy. I don’t know what kind or what stage but I do know the treatment plan is going to be (I met with my surgeon on Monday before I knew) chemotherapy first. I never thought that at 27 this would be my reality but I do know that God would never put more on me than I can bear and his plan for me is much greater and better than I can see or imagine. I appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Journal entry by Kia Coaston

Update: yesterday was treatment 3 out of 12 and so far I’ve been feeling ok; just super tired. My hair has started coming out (my oncologist did say 2-3 weeks after I started chemo) and I’m bummed not because I don’t know it’ll grow back but because after six years post big chop and three years of TLC I was finally in love with my natural hair; taking care of it to grow as big as possible/ to mid back length when straightened but I have faith that it’ll grow back bigger and better than ever
