Kharis’s Story

Site created on April 8, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website for Kharis McGee. She has been a cheerleader from when she first started walking  until she graduated from Weddington High School in June 2020.  She entered Winston-Salem State University in August 2020 as an eager freshman .  Kharis started experiencing pain in her arm after working out one day in October 2020. In February 2021 she had an MRI on her right arm. On March 2, the orthopedic surgeon did a biopsy of the right proximal humerus and the pathology report confirmed the diagnosis  of osteosarcoma. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Journal entry by Shfanta McGee

Kharis completed the first of six cycles, and on Thursday she starts week 6 of 29 of her treatment.  Kharis believes that she will live and not die, her favorite scripture verse is Psalms 27:13. She continues to attend her virtual classes at Winston-Salem State University and complete her assignments as much as she can. Going to class virtually helps her through this process because it reminds her that the diagnosis does not have power over her and when she finishes this process she will be back in Winston-Salem. She asked that no one be sad because she believes in having faith over fear.
