Journal entry by Shannon Volker

Hello all! It’s been awhile! As we all know, Keyten had his thyroid removed back in July. He has had blood tests every 3 months since to check his levels and we see our Endocrinologist in Sioux Falls back in September. Keyten’s levels have been great since surgery so far!

However, at that appointment in September we checked Kylenn, our one year old, calcitonin levels- which is what give them an idea that something is abnormal with his thyroid. Ky’s levels were high, very high. We got referred to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.

Today we had our first appointment with the endocrinologist at Mayo. Today Ky had another blood draw to check his levels. With the history from Keyten already having developed cancer at 2, the Dr decided that we would be better to have surgery sooner rather then later.

With that, they wanted to do surgery this week, but we were not prepared for that yet! So we go back Feb. 20th (Wed) for an ultrasound and then we talk to the surgeon. On Feb. 21st Ky goes in to have his thyroid removed.

Thank you everyone for all the prayers, and please keep them coming! As well as those who have helped in other ways!

“Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you.” - Jeremiah 29:12
