Journal entry by Lorrie Wells

I have really struggled with making this journal entry.. My love, my best friend, has been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. I have tried really hard to keep our friends and loved ones updated with news about his health and journey through this heartbreaking time but sometimes it becomes overwhelming. This hopefully will allow me to keep everyone up to date on where we are with diagnosis and treatment.

Kevin began having issues with what we thought was his gallbladder quite some time ago. He had surgery in March to remove the gallbladder but instead of feeling better he progressively got worse. He was in a lot of pain and my daughter, Stephanie, and I finally talked him into going to the ER in early May. This, of course was right when Covid 19 was escalating and unfortunately I wasn’t able to go into the hospital with him when he was seen by the ER doctor. He had a CT of his abdomen and when the doctor came in to discuss the results, he informed Kevin that his retroperitoneal (abdominal) lymph nodes were extremely swollen and told him he needed to see an oncologist as soon as possible. This devastating news was given to him when he was alone..The ER made the appointment with oncology and we were seen within a couple of days. The oncologist suspected cancer and made arrangements for a biopsy. Our worst fears were confirmed the following week... my husband had cancer and it had already metastasized. Officially,he was diagnosed as stage 4 adenocarcinoma within days. I started  calling the MD Anderson cancer center in Houston before we even left the parking lot and it took a month to get an appointment. We have been on a journey to figure out the cancer source since that day. He has no solid tumor, no mass anywhere. He has undergone every test imaginable since then and even had surgery on July 13th in Houston with hopes of identifying the source. We still don’t know with 100% certainty but they suspect a burned out germ cell cancer that originated in his testicle. We are waiting to  discuss the treatment they recommend but suspect it will be for testicular cancer. He has been been through so much since then. He has lost over 50 lbs and has been in unimaginable pain. He is so sick and my heart breaks for him daily. I have faith that God will heal him with help from the amazing doctors and medical team but ask for your prayers. We hope to begin chemo within the next week or so and will keep our friends and loved ones updated on his progress. Thank you, each and every one of you, for your support and love throughout the most difficult time in our lives. We love you..❤️
