Thanks so much for the update as of today the 20th of May. It’s wonderful news to hear that Kevin is doing so well with his healing and dealing with all the not so easy stuff that comes with all the food restrictions and fluid intake and the dialysis 3 times a week.
Way to go Kevin!! Rena sounds like the most devoted wife and partner in all her caring for him. They are blessed to have each other.
Sending continued prayers and best wishes for strength and healing to them both and lots of love to you Carol. You ALL are pretty amazing. ❤️ KATH
Kevin has been home from the hospital for 3+ weeks, and is doing amazingly well, which is majorly due to Rena’s loving care and encouragement. He’s been called “the poster boy for dialysis”, since it’s going well. However, it has been difficult, for sure, since his intake of sodium, potassium, and phosphorus (as well as protein and other nutrients) needs to be closely monitored. There are many limitations to his diet, and his intake of fluids must be very limited, since the only way to remove fluid from his body is via dialysis (or sweat, which he hasn’t been able to do very much of yet). Recently, he’s been getting headaches from being dehydrated. So everything needs constantly balanced and adjusted.
Rena has been cooking special meals for him, making sure he’s protected from coronavirus, driving him to dialysis 3x per week, and being the major force in his rapid recovery. (She’s pretty amazing!) Kevin himself has a positive disposition, and takes things as they come.
He is still healing from the surgery, and the incision is healing well. He’s talking about going back to work mid-June, but not sure that’s realistic or even possible with COVID19.
Thanks to everyone for your love and encouragement at this risky time. Kevin remains high risk for COVID19, and is isolated from visitors. I’ve been able to visit twice outside, keeping distance, and I can say it’s wonderful being able to see how well he’s doing!
I’m sure it feels great for Kevin and Rena to be back home together! The real healing can begin and I have no doubt they will embrace lifestyle changes with the same positive attitude that has carried them this far!❤️
