Kevin (Duke)’s Story

Site created on June 27, 2018

Kevin is a husband to Wendy,  father to four boys (Paul, Sean, Noah & John), father-in-law to 3, grandfather to 6 (and counting!), brother to 4, devoted cat-dad to Swisher, and friend to many. He recently retired in December 2017, and has been thoroughly enjoying his time spent at their lake home in Richmond, MN. This event has been a shock to all, and we appreciate all of your support, kind wishes, and prayers for recovery.

Tuesday, June 26th. Here's what happened:

Kevin was feeling well and in good spirits when he and Wendy went to John & Sara's new home Tuesday evening to help them around the house. While there, he became winded and couldn't catch his breath for approximately 5 minutes. He started feeling better, and continued on with helping. Later that evening,  he alerted Wendy that he wasn't feeling well, and thought he may be having a heart attack. Wendy called an ambulance and had him admitted to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, MN around 12:30am. Once here, Kevin had an additional "massive" heart attack and was treated accordingly. It was determined that he likely had several smaller attacks leading up to this.

Journal entry by Kristen & Sean Brisky

Today was a special day for our family.

One year ago we got the call that Dad was in the hospital.

One year ago we feared we'd never see the old man again.

One year ago our family's lives changed forever.

Today, June 26th Two Thousand Nineteen, marks one entire trip around the sun being heart attack free for Kevin. One year of tears and joy.  One year of challenges and victories. One year of every one of us realizing that family is THE most important thing...and we've grown much stronger because of all of it.

We are so proud of Duke and how far he's come! He's taking advantage of his new lease on life, eating healthy, excercising, and appreciating the little things. An important reminder for all of us.

Yesterday also marked one year cancer free for Kevin's daughter-in-law (Noah's bride) Rachel! She had an incredibly long summer of recovery last year, all the while visiting Kevin as much as she was able. We are so thankful that she's doing so well and keep our fingers crossed that the cancer is gone for good! Congrats on one year Rachel!

Last but not least...we cannot forget one of THE most important people in this shout-out:

Wendy.

She's been through the thick and the thin, the absolutely terrifying, long days, and the days where hope and progress finally shined through. She's been Kevin's rock and has always managed to keep a positive outlook and attitude. Kevin certainly couldn't have progressed as far as he has without her by his side. ♥️

Thank you all for your support and love through this entire ordeal. Hugs from the Briskys!
